Cleaners Haringey Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Cleaners Haringey in respect of the financial year ending 31 March 2025. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains. We recognise that modern slavery is a serious crime and a violation of fundamental human rights, and we are committed to acting ethically in all our activities.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Cleaners Haringey provides professional cleaning services across Haringey and surrounding areas. Our workforce includes directly engaged staff and vetted subcontractors. Our supply chain includes providers of cleaning equipment, chemicals, workwear, facilities management services, and recruitment agencies that support our operations.
We acknowledge that the cleaning industry and related supply chains can be vulnerable to labour exploitation, particularly in relation to low-paid, temporary, or migrant workers. This awareness informs the controls and due diligence we apply.
Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery
Cleaners Haringey has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking, including forced labour, debt bondage, exploitation, and child labour. This applies to our own operations and to every party we work with. Any breach of this policy is treated as a serious misconduct issue and may result in termination of employment, contract, or business relationship.
Our leadership is responsible for promoting a culture where respect for human rights is embedded in day-to-day decision making. Managers are expected to ensure that work is carried out voluntarily, that workers are free to leave employment subject to lawful notice, and that no recruitment fees, coercive practices, or confiscation of documents are tolerated.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We expect all suppliers, contractors, and business partners to uphold the same standards. Our standard terms require suppliers to comply with all applicable modern slavery and human trafficking laws and to maintain transparent, ethical labour practices. We prioritise working with suppliers who can demonstrate robust human rights policies and procedures.
As part of our due diligence, we undertake risk-based assessments of new and existing suppliers. Higher-risk suppliers may be subject to enhanced checks, including evidence of right-to-work processes, wage records, working hours controls, and subcontractor management. We reserve the right to carry out audits, either announced or unannounced, to verify compliance and to request corrective action plans where issues are identified.
Where a supplier fails to meet our standards or refuses to engage in remediation, we will review and, if necessary, end the relationship.
Training, Awareness, and Reporting Channels
We provide appropriate training and guidance to managers and relevant staff on recognising indicators of modern slavery and how to respond to concerns. This includes understanding the vulnerabilities of certain worker groups and the signs of coercion or exploitation.
Cleaners Haringey encourages everyone connected with our business to speak up about any suspicion of modern slavery, whether within our operations or our supply chain. Concerns can be raised confidentially with a line manager, a senior manager, or through our internal reporting mechanisms. Reports may be made anonymously if preferred, and we do not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against those who raise concerns in good faith.
When an allegation is made, we will investigate promptly, take appropriate action, and, where required, cooperate with law enforcement and relevant authorities.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing process of improvement. Over the coming year, we aim to strengthen our supplier assessments, further integrate human rights criteria into procurement decisions, and enhance the frequency and depth of our audits in higher-risk areas.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually to ensure it remains current, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and recognised best practice. Any significant changes to our business model, geographic footprint, or supply chain profile will trigger an earlier review. Following each review, we will update this statement to reflect progress, new measures, and lessons learned.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Cleaners Haringey and will be reviewed and reissued on an annual basis.
